Pam Benton, Spanish teacher at Boca Ciega High School in Pinellas County has 21 years of teaching experience in middle schools, high schools, adult learning centers and Berlitz in the US, Japan and Korea. She achieved National Board Certification in 2007. She currently teaches Spanish I, AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature. She has just ended a term as Parliamentarian of FFLA and ACTFL host committee member and is the Secretary of the Pinellas County World Language Teacher's Association. She has served as President and Vice President of PWLTA in the past. Pam has presented many workshops over the years at FFLA, PCWLTA and Big Bend Foreign Language Teacher's Association events. She is an advisor for the Florida State University College for High School study abroad programs in Costa Rica and Europe. She was the 2009 Florida Foreign Language Association Teacher of the Year nominee to SCOLT. She sponsors the Spanish Honor Society Chapter and the State Conferencia Team at her school. She lives in St. Petersburg with her husband, nephew and two dogs. Ana María Gilliam has 28 years of teaching and coaching experience in Collier County. Since 1998, she has taught AP Spanish Language, AP Spanish Literature and Spanish III courses at Gulf Coast High School. In addition to teaching, she currently coaches both Varsity Girls Golf and Spanish Academic teams. She has10 years experience in overseas instruction, leading groups of students to study foreign languages through NETC. Mrs. Gilliam has participated in the promotion of world languages at international teacher conventions in Mexico, Argentina, Spain, and various European countries. She has presented in Washington, D.C., and Collier County. She is a member of national, state and district associations such as: AATSP, FAATSP, FFLA, and FHSAA. She has been on several committees, including School Advisory Council, Faculty Advisory, Textbook Adoption, Curriculum Writing, and Diversity. Some of Profesora Gilliam’s awards are: Latin American Business Professionals Educator of the Year, GCHS Teacher of the Year, Nominee for Macy’s Florida Teacher of the Year, and Ft. Myers News Press Coach of the Year. Mrs. Gilliam has been a sponsor at the Florida State Spanish Conference in Orlando, of which she is a proponent. Cari Gibson is the current Department Chair of World Languages and Advanced Spanish Instructor at Cambridge Christian School in Tampa, Fl. As a graduate of the University of South Florida and a Florida state certified teacher, she has taught for 8 years. She is also a member of AATSP and FFLA. She is the sponsor of the Spanish team which has thrived at the Florida State Spanish Competition (FSSC) by placing first or second place over the past three years. In addition, she is the sponsor for the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica. Professionally, she has been the driving force to promote World Languages at her school and has created an excitement within the student body to continue to study foreign languages. As an educator, she motivates her students to achieve excellence and, as a result, many of her students have minored in Spanish and studied abroad. As Department Chair she has established a high quality program and introduced the AP level of language study. She has attended workshops and created and given in-service workshops to her peers in cooperative learning, classroom management and positive communication skills in the classroom Amarylis Heard, is the 2009 Secretary of FAATSP. Linda Markley is the Department Chairperson and a Nationally Board Certified Teacher of Spanish 3, 4 and AP at West Shore Jr./Sr. High School in Melbourne. Linda is also currently acting as District Resource Teacher for World Languages in Brevard County. She has taught for 30 years and received her Bachelors degree in Spanish, French and Math from Jacksonville University. She received her Masters in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca. An avid proponent of the study of World Languages, Linda frequently makes presentations at FFLA, SCOLT and ACTFL. She also serves on the FFLA Board as the Grants Coordinator and Region 12 Director and also, is President-Elect for 2011. Finally, Linda would like to encourage everyone to get involved in World Languages professional organizations to promote the study of other languages and make a difference in the future of all students everywhere. Gudrun Martyny is a Spanish Teacher and the World Languae Curriculum Leader at Timber Creek High School in Orlando. During her time at Timber Creek, Arabic, Russian and Mandarin have been added to the curriculum. Currently, Timber Creek has a staff of 17 World Language teachers. Gudrun is the current Executive Director of FFLA. Gudrun was the Foreign Language Specialist in Fairfax County, VA before moving to Orlando. She has taught Spanish, French and German for over 20 years on both the East and West Coast. Gudrun was the Vice President and President of OCFLA. She has conducted a variety of workshops and institutes both in technology and in Immersion education. She sponsors the FSSC State Competition team as well as the Spanish National Honor Society. Gudrun is the FAATSP Webmaster. Our Past President is Dora Ramos, Spanish teacher at Nathan B. Forrest High School with 21 years of teaching experience. She is the driving force behind the increased enrollment in Spanish III classes at Forrest and teaches levels I, II and III. She also teaches Spanish to adult professionals after school, and co-sponsors the Spanish Club. Mrs. Ramos was the sponsor of the highly successful Florida State Spanish Conference (FSSC) 2006. She is a member of national, state and district associations. She has served as a board member to the Foreign Language Educators of Northeast Florida Association (FLENEF) and has presided in many conferences. She served in the local committee of the FFLA Conference in October 2006 and is an active member of the current board. Mrs. Ramos has shared her knowledge and experience with her peers by giving in-service workshops at FLENEF and FFLA. .
